Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about permits, materials, timelines, and the areas we serve.

What areas do you serve?

We serve the Greater Charlotte Metro area, including Ballantyne, Davidson, Huntersville, Lake Wylie, and surrounding communities.

Do I need a permit for my deck?

Most decks in the Charlotte Metro area require a permit. We handle permitting as part of our process — see our blog post on deck-building regulations.

What decking materials do you use?

We install pressure-treated wood and composite materials including TimberTech and Wolf, and will recommend the right fit for your budget and goals.

How long does a project take?

Timelines vary by scope and permitting, but we provide a clear schedule up front and keep you updated throughout. As a rough guide, a typical single-level deck takes one to two weeks of construction once permits are approved, screened porches two to four weeks, and Mecklenburg County plan review commonly adds one to three weeks before we start.

How does the estimate process work?

It starts with a free consultation at your home. We walk the yard with you, listen to what you're picturing, and talk honestly about budget and materials. From there we design the space and walk you through materials, timeline, and cost, so you approve every detail before we build.

Who handles permits and HOA approval?

We do. Most decks and screened porches in Charlotte require a building permit through Mecklenburg County, and many neighborhoods also require HOA architectural approval. We prepare the drawings, submit the applications, supply whatever your HOA asks for, and schedule the inspections.

Should I choose composite or wood decking?

Both work in Charlotte — the difference is maintenance. Our humidity, pollen, and summer sun mean a wood deck needs cleaning and re-staining every couple of years, while composite boards from TimberTech, Trex, or Wolf need only soap-and-water cleaning and carry 25-year to limited-lifetime warranties depending on the line. We bring samples to every consultation and are honest about the trade-offs.

Do you build pergolas?

Yes — pergolas are one of our specialties. As a certified Azenco Outdoor dealer, we design and install motorized louvered aluminum pergolas across the Charlotte Metro area: open the louvers for sun, angle them for shade, or close them to shed rain into an integrated gutter.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We partner with GreenSky® to offer flexible payment options, including fixed monthly payments and promotional no-interest plans, subject to credit approval. Bring it up during your consultation and we'll walk you through the available plans — see our Financing page for details.

Is your work covered by a warranty?

Yes. Our work is backed by a workmanship warranty, and the products we install from manufacturers like TimberTech and Wolf carry their own material warranties. We'll walk you through the specific coverage for your project — see our Warranties page for more.
