You don't need anything to get started, but a little preparation makes the visit more productive. Photos of decks, pergolas, or porches you like help us understand the style you're after. A rough budget range — even a wide one — lets us steer the design toward materials that fit. And if your neighborhood has an HOA, its architectural guidelines are worth having on hand, since we prepare the drawings most HOAs ask for.
